The Mayor and Tokens

The Mayor runs your village. They live in the Town Hall, and you'll be talking to them a lot. Right click the Mayor to open their screen. If the Mayor ever goes missing, a new one turns up.

The Mayor's screen

  • Village Info: every building and every villager in one place. Buildings show if they're working, and anything in red has a problem (click it to see why). There are Locate buttons so you can find things, and you can manage beds and storage from here. Villager cards show health, food, happiness and intelligence.
  • Shop: where you buy building tokens and job tokens.
  • Settings: village rules (births, raids, the bell, how many defenders go after each monster) and settings for every job.
  • Guide: a searchable in game guide. Handy if you don't want to alt tab to this wiki.

Tokens

Tokens are how you tell the village what to do. There are two kinds:

  • Building tokens go in an item frame on a building and tell the village what the building is. See the Buildings page.
  • Job tokens are used on a villager (right click) to give them that job. See the Jobs page.

Where tokens come from

  • The Town Hall token is crafted: 8 logs (any kind) around a crafting table.
  • When you found a village you get a free chest by the Town Hall door with 32 bread and these tokens: Storage, 2 Bed House, Lumberjack, Farmer and Merchant Stall.
  • Everything else is bought from the Mayor with emeralds.

Tokens belong to one village

A token you buy is tied to that village. Its name turns green and the tooltip shows which village it's from. It won't work anywhere else, so you can't buy cheap tokens in a tiny village and use them in your big one.

Tokens can't really be lost

A token on the ground doesn't burn, doesn't blow up, doesn't despawn, and comes back if it falls out of the world.

Paying for things

The Mayor only takes emeralds your village earned. Those show up with your village's name in green. You earn them by selling stuff to the travelling merchant: build a Merchant Stall, give someone the Tradesman job, and they'll sell your extra goods when the merchant visits. You can choose what they keep and what they sell in the tradesman's settings.

The merchant shows up on each of the first 3 mornings after you found a village (and pays double on those visits), then roughly every day and a half after that.

Prices

Prices go up as your village grows. Each villager and each building (not the Town Hall) adds 3%, up to 3.5 times the starting price. On top of that, buying more of the same token gets pricier, +10% for each one you already have, up to +50%. These are the starting prices in emeralds:

  • Guard Post 3, Mine 3
  • 2 Bed House 6, Storage 6
  • Watchtower 10, 4 Bed House 13
  • Kitchen 18
  • 6 Bed House 20, Ranch 20, Archery Range 20, Merchant Stall 20
  • Butchery 25, School 28
  • Forge 30, Library 30, Mage Tower 32
  • Barracks 35 (comes with a free Captain token), Tavern 36

  • Lumberjack 3, Farmer 3, Rancher 3, Captain 3
  • Butcher 4, Miner 4
  • Guard 5, Archer 5, Tradesman 5, Blacksmith 5

The Captain token is only for sale when a Barracks has no captain (say yours died).

Lost your Town Hall token?

If the Town Hall token leaves its frame, you get a warning to hang it back. Wait too long and the village pauses. Don't panic. Talk to the Mayor and buy a new Town Hall token for 2 emeralds, or pay with 8 logs and a crafting table instead. The old token stops working once you have the new one.
