Villager Life
Villagers in this mod aren't just trading machines. They eat, sleep, get tired and grumpy, make friends at the tavern, and have kids. Keep them fed and happy and they'll work hard for you. Neglect them and things slowly fall apart.
Looking at a villager
Right click a villager (with nothing special in your hand) to open their screen. You'll see:
- their name, job, and what they're doing right now
- bars for health, food, happiness and intelligence
- their job skill levels (up to 4), which you can click for more detail
- personality badges and their favourite job
- what they're carrying (you can look but not take)
- a Settings button if their job has settings
Every villager has their own first and last name, and you can rename them with a name tag. A water bucket washes the dirt off a muddy farmer.
Personality
Villagers can have up to 3 personality badges. They change how a villager works and behaves:
- Quick hands or Slow and steady
- Hard worker or Easygoing
- Chatty or Keeps to themselves
Food
Villagers get hungry and help themselves to food from the Storage chests. They eat breakfast early in the morning, lunch around midday and dinner in the evening, and only snack in between if they're really hungry. Harder jobs make them hungrier.
- When food gets low they start losing happiness.
- When it gets really low they stop working until they've eaten.
- Starving villagers slowly lose health. On Hard difficulty they can actually die, on Normal and Easy it stops before that.
Good and varied food makes them happier, so a cook is worth getting early.
Sleep and the daily routine
- Work ends around 6 in the evening.
- After that they hang out: the tavern, the library, visiting each other.
- Bedtime is around 9 at night (some go a bit earlier), and they're up again just after 5 in the morning.
A good night's sleep in a bed gives a big happiness boost. Sleeping without a bed still helps, just not as much. So make sure everyone has a bed in a House.

Happiness
Happiness goes from 0 to 100. Working wears it down a little every day, and these bring it back up:
- sleeping in a bed
- good, varied meals
- chatting with other villagers (it counts triple at the tavern)
- a fun evening, especially at the tavern with a bard playing
- a cleric cheering them up
- just walking around a nice village
Hunger and crowded houses bring it down. When happiness gets very low (25 or less) the villager is sad. They keep working, but walk and work slower until they cheer up.
Babies
Your village grows on its own if you look after it. A baby can be born when:
- two happy, well fed adults are sleeping in beds in the same house
- there's enough food in storage
- there are more beds in the village than villagers
It doesn't happen every night, so be patient. A village can grow up to 64 villagers. If you'd rather control the population yourself, you can turn births off in the Mayor's settings.
Children grow up after about 5 days. If they go to School first they pick up a favourite job, and they learn faster later on.
New villagers from outside
Every now and then a group of nomads camps near your village in the morning. Right click one with a job token and they'll join you. You need a Storage room with food and somewhere for them to live. The smaller your village, the more often nomads show up. Don't break their campfire, they really don't like that.
